Scholarships of the Kiwanis Club of Lynchburg, VA

Annually, our Kiwanis Club’s Education and Benevolent Foundation awards over $30,000 in scholarships to local high school students who are members of the Key Clubs we sponsor or who belong to another civic organization at a school where we sponsor a Key Club. The application cycle begins in early April and closes on May 31 each year. The scholarship winners are announced at our annual Shrimpfest event. 

The Odie Mayhew Scholarship                                               $2,500

     The Odie Mayhew Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending college the following fall. The recipient must show academic merit and financial need, and must be an active member of a Key Club from Brookville High School, E.C. Glass High School, Jefferson Forest High School or Liberty High School.

The Colonel Joseph Brown Scholarship                                 $3,000

     The Colonel Joseph Brown Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending a Virginia college or university in the fall. The recipient must show academic merit and financial need, and must be an active member of a Key Club from Brookville High School, E.C. Glass High School, Jefferson Forest High School or Liberty High School.

The Craig Cousins Award                                                      Up To $12,500
From the Colonel Joseph Brown Scholarship Fund

     The Craig Cousins Award from the Colonel Joseph Brown Scholarship Fund is awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending college the following fall. The recipient must be an active member, in good standing, of one of the Key Clubs that are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lynchburg. Currently, the Key Clubs sponsored by the Lynchburg Kiwanis Club are at Brookville High School, E.C. Glass High School, Jefferson Forest High School and Liberty High School. The award is based on academic merit. The recipient is to have shown extraordinary service to Key Club.

Craig Cousins Merit Grants (4 or more)                                Up To $3,000 each
From the Colonel Joseph Brown Scholarship Fund

     Up to four Merit Grants will be available for students who have held leadership positions or have exhibited outstanding leadership characteristics in civic and community service organizations. The recipient must show academic merit and financial need, and must be an active member of a civic and community service organization from Brookville High School, E.C. Glass High School, Jefferson Forest High School or Liberty High School.
